Lost and FoundA man once told a story to a group of religious leaders who complained about this man's welcoming sinful people to eat with him. The man answered them, "If you had a hundred sheep, and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine others to go and search for the lost one until you found it? And then you would joyfully carry it home on your shoulders. When you arrived you would call together your friends and neighbors to rejoice with you because your lost sheep was found. "In the same way, heaven will be happier over one lost sinner who returns to God than over ninety-nine others who haven't strayed." (Luke 15:3-7, LB). The man was Jesus of Nazareth. To this day, there are still "lost sheep"-- sinful people (as are all of us)-- to whom Jesus has extended the invitation to come and eat with Him. Are you among the lost sheep that Jesus is seeking? The prophet Isaiah said, "We are the ones who strayed away like sheep! We, who left God's paths to follow our own. Yet God laid on Him (Jesus, the coming Messiah) the guilt and sins of every one of us!" (Isaiah 53:6, LB).
