Life on Account #155

What is the value of your home or your car? A large home or a new car can be worth quite a bit to you. But as an old employer frequently reminded his clients, you can't take it with you. The point is, whatever material possessions you have accumulated have no eternal value.

Something else which is of no eternal value is your so-called good works. Why? Because not one of us is perfect. The requirement for entrance into heaven is perfection. Do you think this is too much to ask? Perhaps, but you are not the one who has made the rules. Our Creator made the rules. He will enforce them.

But God has also provided the perfect life of Christ to open the door to heaven. Christ did what you and I could never do. Christ was "tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15). He is the only man to perfectly obey God and fulfill His requirements for entrance into heaven. And "Through the obedience of the One [Jesus], the many will be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

You see, those who believe in Jesus Christ have His perfect life placed "on account" for them in heaven. What does this mean? It means, when God looks at you, He does not see your sin, your imperfect life. Instead, He sees the perfect life of Christ. That is, if you trust in this perfect life of Christ to take you to heaven!

And so Christ's sinless life becomes more precious than all you own. It becomes much more important than your own life.
